Three chest sessions of four working sets each is twelve weekly sets for chest, and twelve is the number you plan against, not four. MEV, MAV and MRV: the landmarks the tool flags against.
The three landmarks turn a raw weekly number into a decision. MEV, the minimum effective volume, is the least weekly volume that still produces new growth - the floor. A muscle sitting below it is being maintained at best, so the flag reads "add volume". MAV, the maximum adaptive volume, is the band where most clients grow best for the effort invested, and it is where a hypertrophy block should spend most of its weeks. MRV, the maximum recoverable volume, is the ceiling a client can recover from before fatigue outpaces adaptation. Cross it for too long and progress stalls or reverses, which is why the tool flags anything over MRV as a deload risk rather than a badge of hard work.

Should I count indirect sets like rows for biceps?
A barbell row trains the back but also loads the biceps and rear delts. A common rule is to count direct work as a full set for the target muscle and meaningful indirect work as a partial set.
