Sports coaching software.

There is no single best sports coaching platform, and any list that gives you one is ignoring the thing that decides it: what unit you program in. A strength coach writes percentages of a one-rep max, a running coach writes pace, a cycling coach writes power, a physique coach writes macros. Pick by the sport, not by the feature count.

How this comparison is made: we check every competitor's pricing and features against their live websites and re-verify them on a recurring basis. We build Coachway, so we flag it wherever it appears, we credit real competitor strengths, and we say who each platform fits better than us. Browse all platform comparisons.

the short answer

Choose sports coaching software by the unit you prescribe in. Percentages of 1RM and RPE for strength and conditioning, pace and heart rate for running, power for cycling, three disciplines in one week for triathlon, and macros with weekly photos for physique work. Coachway fits the coach who runs training, nutrition and check-ins for individual athletes in one place; a specialist endurance tool fits better when precise power or multi-sport prescription is the entire job. And if you manage a squad rather than coach individuals, you want fixture and availability software, which is a different category from anything here.

Which sport are you coaching?

Each of these is a full comparison of the platforms for that sport, written against the way that sport is actually programmed.

the deciding factor

The prescription unit is the whole decision.

Every platform in this space can store a session and send it to an athlete. What separates them is whether they can express the session the way you think about it. A cycling coach who writes an interval as four by eight minutes at 105% of FTP needs a field for that; a tool that only offers sets and reps forces the coach to write it in the notes, and the moment prescription lives in free text, none of the tracking works.

The same trap catches strength coaches whose platform has no percentage logic, and triathlon coaches whose platform cannot hold three disciplines in one week without three separate plans. Before comparing prices, write out one real week of your own programming and check the tool can hold it without a workaround. If you also coach nutrition alongside the training, the nutrition platform comparison covers that half.

being straight about it

If you manage a squad, this is the wrong category.

A club coach running a team has a different problem: who is available on Saturday, who has paid their subs, who missed training, and how to tell thirty parents that the fixture moved. That is squad and fixture management, and it is a separate class of software with its own vendors. We have not researched those tools and will not pretend otherwise, so if that is your job, this page is not the one to read.

Everything here is written for coaches who prescribe training to individual athletes and get feedback back, whether that is one athlete or eighty. That is a genuinely different job from running a team, even when the sport is the same.

questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is sports coaching software?

It is the system a coach uses to prescribe training, collect what the athlete actually did, and manage the coaching relationship around it. In practice the category splits by what you prescribe: percentages of a one-rep max, pace, power, or macros. A tool built for one of those is usually awkward at the others, which is why there is no single best sports coaching platform and why the honest answer starts with which sport you coach.

Is sports coaching software the same as team management software?

No, and confusing the two wastes a lot of money. Team or squad management is about fixtures, availability, attendance, subs and parent communication for a group. Coaching software is about prescribing an individual training plan and tracking what came back. If you run a club side and mostly need to know who is available on Saturday, you want the first category, and nothing on this page is built for that.

Can one platform handle several sports?

Up to a point. Anything that lets you write structured sessions and collect feedback will technically work across sports, and coaches who work with mixed athletes often do exactly that. Where single-platform coverage breaks down is in the prescription units - a tool with no concept of power will not serve a cycling coach well, and one with no percentage-of-max logic will frustrate a strength coach. Match the tool to the unit you actually program in.

Do I need sport-specific software or will general coaching software do?

If you coach individuals online and the training is one part of a wider relationship that includes nutrition, habits and check-ins, general coaching software usually does the job and keeps everything in one place. If your entire value is precise prescription in a specialist unit, especially power for cycling or multi-discipline planning for triathlon, a sport-specific tool will fit better. Many coaches run one of each and accept the overlap.

What does sports coaching software cost?

For coaching individual athletes online, the realistic band is roughly EUR 20 to 90 a month for a solo coach, usually scaling with active athletes. Specialist endurance platforms often price per coach with an athlete allowance on top. The number that matters is not the monthly fee but the fee at the athlete count you are aiming for, since flat tiers and per-athlete pricing look identical at ten and very different at fifty.
